12 Christmas STEM activities that are easy to set up, differentiate, and enjoy! These activities are easy enough to do in one class period, and I have color-coded them based on level of difficulty. There are also suggestions on how to make some of the tasks even more challenging, which makes these activities appropriate for a wide level of grades. With 12 challenges to choose from, there is something for everyone. Host a 12 days of Christmas STEM event, a STEM family night, or use some challenges this year and some next.

Materials Needed

You will need basic office supplies like tape, string, card stock, and rubber bands. You will also need cups, empty plastic egg cartons, a large cardboard box or sheet for a ramp, and building bricks are recommended. Inexpensive candy, such as peppermints, can be used for the candy challenges.

If you would like to complete the advanced STEM challenges, you will also need simple circuit supplies such as copper tape, button batteries, and LEDs. Many of these challenges can also be used for CAD design / 3D printing challenges if that is an option for you, such as the bell, conveyor belt, and snowball launcher.

When to Use these Challenges

  • STEM Fridays, Maker Mondays, or Tinker Tuesdays
  • After-school STEM Club
  • Family Holiday STEM Night
  • STEM sub plans/ sub tub. The directions and materials are easy to set up and straightforward to use.
