This packet is designed to be a fun math activity to share with your students around the holidays!
It is a good review of skills such as multi-step multiplication, real world multi-step problems, using multiple operations, critical thinking, and problem solving.
It allows students to plan their own Christmas shopping for friends and family. It provides 16 items and their prices for students to choose from while “shopping.”
There are spaces for students to choose six different gifts, and they can choose to “purchase” multiples if they want to get multiple people the same gift. It could easily be adapted to work well with a classroom economy so that each student has their own individual “budget” within the amount of money they have.
It is aligned to the common core math standards for fourth and fifth grades, and I believe it would be appropriate for both grade levels with different amounts of scaffolding.
