This product-"Christmas Sight Word and Fluency Riddles-What is in the Box?"- includes fun and engaging activities for your beginning readers during the holiday season. Although the cover has Christmas decorations, the content of the product is centered on the more generic theme of gift giving, so may be used in classrooms that don't celebrate with any Christmas festivities. The clip art includes a group of wrapped presents, but there are no Christmas symbols.
Included in this packet are:
-5 worksheets in which students read ten "riddles" (simple clues or describing statements) and choose from 10 cut and glue pictures as the gift that is being described
-cut & paste "gift" pictures in two formats- one with labels and one with no labels
-two lists of reading vocabulary present in the materials (the first list has 88 words that can be found on the Dolch PP- 3rd grade &/or 95 nouns list &the second list is the (mostly) decodable, phonetically regular remainder of the words that are included in the sentences.)
-an answer key with all the correct pictures in each of the ten sentence boxes for each worksheet.
Children love presents and surprises, so while working on these riddles they have fun predicting which present came from which box as they practice reading short sentences and begin to use comprehension strategies such as making inferences and drawing conclusions.
