As a first grade teacher, I tried a lot of things to help my students become better writers. Their imaginations are great, but they definitely need practice on the conventions of writing a complete sentence, and putting them into practice. Though I no longer teach my dear firsties, I know how much my original Silly Sentence Scoot resource helped me, and I wanted to create a Christmas-themed version for YOU!
You can use this resource several different ways: as a whole-group SCOOT activity, in a center, or even during small-group writing instruction. No matter how you use it, it gives your students a HANDS-ON experience with crafting sentences!
Please watch the video preview to see a detailed look inside this resource, but to give you a general overview, here's what's included:
+ Teacher Instructions and Tips to help you!
+ 24 silly Christmas-themed sentences broken up into word cards, where the students unscramble each sentence and put the words in an order that makes sense
+ 9 Challenge Cards to use as extra tasks for your whole-group SCOOT, either if you have more than 24 kids in your class or if you just want to break up the SCOOT for your students. They include activities that incorporate STEM, motor skills, and more. I also have 9 BLANK Challenge Cards to create your own challenges for your students!
+ Eight different Recording Page Options to make sure there's one PERFECT for your students!
+ An answer key for you the teacher. NOTE that there is more than one correct answer per sentence! ;)
Currently the set is all printer-friendly, but I do plan to include a colored option for your word & challenge cards! When that gets added, the price will increase, so grab it now!
If you don't know what SCOOT is, here's a little synopsis: it is a whole-group activity that has minimal prep and maximum impact! You place a task at each desk for the students to complete in a short amount of time, and then the students scoot, at your signal, around the room. It can be as simple as writing an answer to a math problem, to as advanced as writing a paragraph about a topic. In this scoot, each desk will have a sentence that has been cut into separate words. The student will arrange the words to form a correct sentence. Then, they will write the sentence down on their recording sheet, and scramble the words back up for the next person.
I'm happy to answer any questions you may have! I hope you enjoy this resource for the most wonderful time of the year!
