This is a delightful Appalachian version of an English children's song. It's a variation on the traditional story of animals talking and doing miraculous things on Christmas.
This Make My Music bundle includes:
*illustrations with vocabulary
*mp3 of the song
As we become more of an urban society, children lose the knowledge of our agricultural roots. I love how this song not only includes rhyming words and is in a minor key, but, in a humorous way, educates children on farm vocabulary (i.e. what is harrowing? what does it mean to winnow?). This song is great for fall and the harvest time as well as the Christmas season.
How to Adapt for Performing:
• Cut the pages in half so you have one word and one image for each page.
• Blow the images up giant size, back them on red and green cardboard, laminate them and they are ready for a performance.
• Place 14 students in a line with their laminated image/word facing them. As the students sing the song, each student turns their image/word around to face the audience at the appropriate time.
• Have some additional students play percussion instruments on the beat.
