A great hands-on activity to involve children in learning about nouns, verbs and activities. We all know that when children have fun and get involved they learn more.
I find with nouns, verbs and adjectives, that I need to teach and re-teach them until all parts of speech are totally secure. I have other worksheets in my shop to help you with this.
This Christmas Sorting Activity is a fun way to introduce children to the different parts of speech. With my students, I always teach them from the start that nouns are red, verbs are green (for go—action) and adjectives are blue. I then stick to these colours when they are looking through text for these parts, so that they can circle or underline them in these colours. We all find it simpler to stick to this. I also point out that noun starts with ‘n’. as does ‘name’. I keep repeating this as often as needed.
I have provided two pages of nouns, two of verbs and two of adjectives. There is one set coloured and one plain. Start with the coloured version for younger or less able pupils and use the white ones with more able children, or as children progress and become more confident. The coloured cards match the description on the sacks.
If you print these off and laminate them, they will last you for years.
Give the children the printed words and a set of the sacks, labelled nouns, verbs and adjectives. Get them to sort them into the right sack. If they work in pairs or teams they can encourage each other and correct mistakes as they go along. Play games, use the cards to act out the words and see if the children can guess the word on the card.
Have fun!!! I hope you are pleased with your purchase. Please contact me if you are not happy or if anything needs altering. Thank you!
