This download includes unit 3 of the Reading Through History Christmas series. This unit includes the histories of Christmas trees, lights, food, and cards. Each individual lesson traces the lineage of the tradition and describes how they became an essential part of the Christmas holiday and broader culture. For each lesson, a series of reading comprehension questions are included, along with guided reading and vocabulary activities, and a constructed response question. Every reading topic also has questions geared toward the 4th and 5th grade Common Core literature and reading standards. A pie chart activity is also included. Objectives include Key Ideas, Range of Reading, Key Ideas and Details, Range of Reading and Level of Text Complexity, Phonics and Word Recognition, Writing, and Fluency. The packet includes everything a social studies or reading teacher would need to cover four days of class.
