I LOVE this activity. You can be as creative or as simple as you would like.
There are strips of 4 Christmas Trees. The first two Christmas trees have the two contraction base words on them, then there is a blank tree, then there is the contraction on the 4th. You fold along the dotted lines to go from two words to one contraction.
You can choose to cut out the tree by the branches or you can cut along the light gray lines to make for simpler cutting. Students can color the tree very simple, or decorate each tree with ornaments. If you really wanted to get creative, you could add pom poms or glitter to really decorate the trees.
There are also some blank trees to add your own contractions that are not included.
I recommend using cardstock or thicker paper...but not necessary.
Another idea would be to enlarge using the copy machine and have students work in pairs to really create 1 neat folded contraction tree and then display on a bulletin board.
I also have a contractions unit for any season available at http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Contractions-Printable-Activities
