This is a fun pack to use during the week before Christmas break. It combines social studies, language arts, and critical thinking as students explore the history and traditions of Christmas Trees at the White House. I included a variety of activities. —2 page Informational Text about the National Tree and the White House Christmas Tree traditions. Approximately 5th grade reading level.

—6 basic multiple choice questions about the passage
✔ QAR Graphic Organizer
—Students use the QAR strategy of analyzing different question types and answer questions about the passage.
✔ Live or Cut Tree?
–Students practice supporting opinions by deciding if they think there should be a live or a cut tree on the White House lawn. Then, use the graphic organizer to record their thoughts.
✔ Tangled Timeline
—Students create a cut and paste timeline of the different themes that first ladies have chosen for the White House Christmas tree since the 60’s. Color and black and white versions are included. A page with 10 follow up questions to practice reading timelines.
✔ Blue Room Tree
—Students decorate their own White House Christmas tree.
