I do this special activity with my students working on listening comprehension each holiday season. I compiled non-fiction information about target Christmas vocabulary including candy canes, carols, Christmas cards, tree farms, decorations, evergreen trees, feast, Jingle Bells, mistletoe, poinsettia, scrooge, Silent Night, stocking, tinsel, and wreath, as well as listening comprehension questions.
You can use these nonfiction passages in any way you'd like such as answer the questions before taking a turn in a game. I personally write the titles on pieces of paper. I then fold the titles up and put them inside of fake present boxes of various shapes, sizes, and colors. Then I ask the student to select a box by describing it to me (e.g. "I want the blue square present with a snowflake bow"). Then they get to open the box to figure out, which listening passage they'll hear.
