Help Wanted: Elves for Santa's Workshop Writing and Craft Activity
Santa is looking for elves to work in the workshop at the North Pole and has placed a Help Wanted Ad in the newspaper. For this activity, students will create an elf and then write a letter to Santa explaining the elf's character traits that would make him/her the perfect elf for the job. The letters and elves make an adorable hallway display for the holidays.

Olive, the Red Nose Reindeer Persuasive Writing Project
This activity will allow students to practice their persuasive writing skills by recruiting a new reindeer for Santa! This lesson uses the book, Olive, the Other Reindeer by Vivian Walsh and J. Otto Seibold. This book is about a dog that helps Santa complete his mission of delivering presents.
Students will choose an animal and write a persuasive letter to Santa explaining its adaptations that would be beneficial for him on Christmas Eve.

Mrs. Claus's Christmas Cookie Disaster
This activity incorporates sequencing, reading directions, math, and writing. Here is the situation: Mrs. Claus has misplaced her recipe for Santa's favorite Christmas cookies! The reindeer have been trying to help her and have been able to offer information on the details of the recipe. However, no one reindeer can provide all of the information needed.
-read the directions and put them in order (individual and large sequence cards provided)
-use math skills to double the recipe (sheet included)
-write a letter to Mrs. Claus with the ingredients and the steps correctly ordered (plan sheets and final copy stationery provided)
-Answer Key included
To top off this activity, we make these cookies as a class and enjoy them! I think you will find this LOADS of fun!
Wintry Writing Activity
With this activity, students are given a copy of the snowball plan sheet and will choose one of the categories to brainstorm ideas and details. Once he/she is finished, the plan sheet will be passed to another student who will choose a category and brainstorm ideas to go along with the category that has already been filled out. Have students continue passing their papers until each page is full of details. Finally, have students return their papers to the original authors, who will use the details provided to write a wintry story.
