What’s in the Present? – This writing prompt is great to use during the holiday season. It can either be placed in your writing center for early finishers or you can assign this activity to your whole class. The finished products can be hung in your room for a cute bulletin board display or sent home with the children to share with their families!
I have included two differentiated writing prompts for this activity and each prompt comes in both a colored and a black and white version:
For younger children, have them write a simple riddle using four clues that describe what is in their present and then draw a picture of it on the blank present page. When completed, it is fun to have them read their clues to each other to see if they can guess what is in the present. These can also make a cute interactive bulletin board where the kids can read the clues themselves and then lift the covers to see if their guesses are correct!
For older children, this is a great activity to practice descriptive writing using adjectives. Have the children describe the object in their present by using as many adjectives as they can and then underlining all the adjectives they used. When completed, it is fun to have the children try to guess what is in each other’s presents as well.
