1. Creative Writing Activity: Students are Unemployed Elves
In this fun Christmas writing project activity, your students will take on the role of an unemployed elf and will have to apply for a job at the North Pole for the Christmas season. This creative project allows the children to read North Pole job postings, apply for a job by writing an application letter, and going through an interview process for the job. This lesson involves the 6 Traits, and speaking skills as assessments, but your students will not even realize this due to the high interest level in this project!
The document is 7 pages in length and includes: the job openings descriptions, how to write an application letter, how to obtain references, tips on how to be successful in an interview, a rubric to assess their writing and speaking skills and certificates for the jobs. This will be a hit with your students!
2. Write a Letter to a Classmate Activity
I have my students write a letter to another student in the classroom as an fun idea and activity that shows how much they care for their classmates. Included is a one page direction sheet and a rubric that you can use to assess and grade the students' cards.
3. Christmas Common Core Writing Cards
Here are 10 creative Christmas Common Core Writing Activities that would be great to use for writing stations or as assignments during writing class. Some of them include: The Christmas Caper, Secret Santa, and Unemployed Elf! Each activity is aligned with at least one Common Core Writing Standard. Your students will have a blast being able to chose a topic that interests them! You will get this in both Microsoft Word 2010 and in PDF!
4. Christmas Bingo!
Looking for a fun game to play before the holidays? This is a three page packet for a Christmas Bingo Game. Included is: the game board, the words to pick for the game board, and the word cards to call off during the game. Guaranteed to be fun for all ages!
5. Ordered Pair 4 Quadrant Graphing Activity
This activity will have your students plotting 16 ordered pairs on a 4-quadrant grid. After they plot the ordered pairs, they will then connect the dots to form a Christmas tree. Students who finish early can decorate their own tree (and maybe even cut them out for display). We have also used this activity as a math station around the winter holidays.
6. The Great Christmas Caper Writing Activity
You wake up on Christmas and everything is gone! The tree, the stocking, the presents, even the milk and cookies! This imaginative narrative assignment will be great for your students imaginations and writing abilities. Included is: prewriting paper, final paper, a revising/editing checklist, tips on how to use quotation marks, and a final rubric aligned to the Common Core Standards. Enjoy!
7. Design a Toy for Santa Writing Activity
You have been asked to design a new toy for Christmas!
Included in this creative activity is: a page to write a descriptive essay about the new toy, a page to design and color the new toy, and a rubric to help assess the students' writing. Your students will love this and you can use it as an assessment for their writing.
We also threw in three more activities as well!
