The Christmas and Five Senses theme has been created to assist you in meeting your common core curriculum outcomes.

The unit consists of:
Four emergent readers (professionally illustrated) offered in both color and blank and white. These readers introduce key reading concepts and strategies, beginning letter sounds and common sight words that can be used for shared and guided reading.
➢ “Race Around the Christmas Tree Alphabet Track” identifying focus initial sounds of pictures displayed and printing the corresponding letters associated with these sounds on the dotted printing sheet provided.
➢ Alphabet toy picture cards for each letter of the alphabet and printing sheet. Students must identify the initial sound of a toy they might find under their tree and print that letter on the dotted printing sheet provided.
➢ “Race Around the Christmas Tree” game finding matching rhyming pictures
➢ “Vowel in the Middle” game where the students must draw a CVC picture card and print the vowel that is represented in the middle.
➢ “Race Around the Christmas Tree Sight Word Board Game” where the students must say the names of the focus sight words printed.
The focus in this theme is on the outcomes outlined below:
➢ I can tell if a group has greater than, less than or an equal amount. K.CC.B.6.
➢ I can compare two printed numerals between 1-10. K.CC.B.7
➢ I can write numbers 0-20 and show the correct amount of objects for these numbers.
➢ I can count 20 things. K.CC.B.5
➢ I can tell what the height and width of an object.
➢ I can compare the length, width of two objects and explain the difference.
This theme is meant to be used for a two week time period and is based on a balanced literacy philosophy.
