Christmas in Red Butte is a short story by Lucy Maud Montgomery, author of Anne of Green Gables. The story tells about a poor, rural family that doesn't have money for Christmas presents. Theodora, the main character, sacrifices by selling her locket, given to her by her brother whom she thinks is dead. Theodora saves Christmas and receives her own surprise at the end.
This readers' theater adaptation adheres closely to the plot, setting, and characterization of the original story. The script has 10 characters and is suitable for large or small groups.
