This is a fun book to do at Christmas time. The kids each are given one page to do. This is a song book where the kids substitute beginning sounds in "We Wish You a Merry Christmas." Each child is given a letter, digraph, or blend and they write the letter(s) in the blanks and draw something that begins with that letter. For example, if they are assigned ch, the song becomes "We wish you a cherry Christmas, we wish you a cherry Christmas, we wish you a cherry Christmas and a chappy chew year! They could draw a choo-choo or a cherry, etc. I often ask them to draw a big Christmas tree with a present underneath that starts with that letter. I give my lower kids the easier letters, and my high kids the trickier digraphs and blends. There are 23 letter pages enclosed, along with a book cover and the song ending (where the words are traditional). I have left out any letters that wouldn't work in the song (no vowels at the beginning) or letters that make a not so nice word when substituted. This is a very popular class made book on our book shelf and is a great way to review letters and sounds. They love how silly it is. Just print, collect, collate, and put on the shelf. Easy prep! I usually laminate the pages because they love it so much.
