The activities in this pack are designed to add Language and Math review after reading the story “Merry Christmas, Splat.” I created this pack for a substitute to use in my room to reinforce first grade skills that have been practiced in my classroom.
Included in this pack:
Vocabulary cards and definitions-I tried to write the definitions in kid friendly terms.
Retelling worksheet-There are two different sets of directions and 2 different line choices to provide for differentiation.
Adjective Graphic Organizer-This could be as simple as writing a word to describe Splat, or having students write character traits to describe Splat. Differentiate as you see fit for your students’ needs.
Past and Present Verb Tense Sort-I am having my sub do this whole group with my students and then use the follow up worksheet. I have also added a recording sheet should you want to do this as a station in your classroom.
Contraction Sort—Students can use this at a station to match the contraction on the kitten card to its match on the Christmas tree card, or use it as a read and write the room activity. Recording sheets for both are provided.
Count by 5’s-This can be whole group, or placed at a station/math tub. A recording sheet has been provided.
Addition True or False Sort—This can be used whole group, or placed at a station/math tub. A recording sheet has been provided.
Splat Craft—Students will make a Splat craft and do a writing activity, if desired.
