This teeny tiny unit was designed to provide activities for use
in the days prior to and on Columbus Day.
Christopher Columbus booklet (1 color; 1 B&W)
Booklets: Students fold to create story. After folding, cut off edges for neater appearance.
Dice Game: Each student takes a turn rolling dice. Student colors 1 item in the column corresponding with the number he/she rolled.
First student to color all 3 items in a column wins the game.
Past-Present Sort: Students cut out the words on the right side of the page, then, glue onto the chart. Some of the items may be be ambiguous (i.e. disease). Use these items as catalysts for discussion.
Noun-Verb Sort: Students cut out the words on the right side of the page, then, glue onto the chart. Some words have multiple meanings
and will fit in the “both” category. Use these words as opportunities to expand vocabulary by asking students to use the word in 2 different sentences—as a verb in 1 and as a noun in the other.
