This zipped file contains several PDF files and a Word Document to give students some insight into Columbus' travels. It has an overview of his four voyages and a map to complete to "see" where he went. It has a short research piece using websites to find out more about the controversy attached to his holiday. It has a lesson outline for a reenactment where students would claim other classrooms as their own and spread food, disease, etc. The approximately week long lessons conclude with a personal essay where students take a stand on which side of the issue they are on - we should celebrate Columbus or we should not celebrate him. An answer key for the map is provided but a rubric for the essay is not.
