This lesson will help the students understand main idea and author's purpose while studying Columbus. Comparing and contrasting a traditional text book description of Columbus' voyage with that described in Howard Zinn's a People's History of the United States or A Young People's History of the United States as adapted by Rebecca Stefoff. This is an active board lesson with plenty of chance to get the student's involved using interactive devices, note cards, posters. You may choose group work. There is also opportunity to flip portions of the lesson.
