---------------------------------

In this engaging and focused Christopher Columbus activity, students take on the role of investigators as they take a stand on Christopher Columbus' (Cristobal Colon) role in history!

Students examine a variety of primary and secondary sources on Christopher Columbus' exploration, how he was viewed by his sailors, his accomplishments, as well as his treatment of the natives in the Americas. Once finished, students take a stand on his legacy: does he deserve the title of "hero" or does "villain" better describe how he should be viewed? OR, does he fall somewhere in the middle?

Engaging, fun, and geared toward improving primary source skills!

(TIP: Accompany this lesson with the The Age of Exploration 6-Step Scavenger Hunt to learn about the explorers and their discoveries!)
