Close Reading - Christopher Columbus

This passage was written with 4th graders in mind, but I am labeling it for 3-5 since it could be used with more advanced third graders or weaker fifth graders.

The push today in the elementary classroom is to teach the kids the skills of close reading. Focus on and analyze a shorter passage. Hold the details of the passage under a microscope to really examine it.

This paragraph passage is about Christopher Columbus, who funded his voyages, how many trips he made, why he made his initial voyage,where he landed, and where he thought he landed.

This passage would be a great way to introduce your unit on Christopher Columbus. Teach a reading lesson while also introducing a social studies topic.

***** NOTE- This is a very basic passage, but I also have 2 other Columbus passages in my store. They are much longer and offer more in depth details.******

I did not use any clipart on this because I wanted the focus to be on the words and not images.

There are no written student questions, but suggested teacher discussion questions are included.
