The resource centers on teaching students about the different impacts of Columbus and his voyages through a Gallery Walk Activity. In this activity there are eight different stations (displays) scattered throughout the classroom and students must visit all of the stations to gather information related to the impacts of the achievements of Columbus in the New World. This resource includes the displays for all 8 topics (impacts of Columbus) with colorful displays and images. Also, the included teacher guide details online videos that can be used at several stations (with the use of laptops/Chromebooks and internet access) in order to excite and engage students on the different impacts. As well, the resource includes a graphic organizer for students to use while they record the information from each station related to the impacts of Columbus and his voyages on the world and history. The different stations of the Gallery Walk focus on the following impacts of Columbus: Did Columbus Really Discover the New World?, Columbus Was a Brilliant Sailor, Columbus Exploited and Enslaved People, Columbus Followed His Dreams, etc.

Next, the resource includes a writing assignment with rubric that requires the students to argue and defend a position in regards to whether Columbus is a great historical figure and to what extent he should be celebrated as such.

Finally, the detailed teacher guide explains a Four Corners Debate Activity that can be used to have student critically think and debate the question of whether or not Columbus is a great historical figure.
