Looking for Reading Mini-Lessons for Intermediate Students?
Intermediate students need to learn about characters as they are reading and using picture books is a great way to teach these mini-lessons. If you don’t own the book, your kids can watch it on youtube!
We keep a Reading Notebook in our classroom (a spiral notebook) and students keep their sheet from our mini lessons in the notebook. If you do not use a notebook, they can be glued into a small construction paper booklet. In this pack are flap books and other interactive notebook sheets to be used with Chrysanthemum and blank versions that can be used later with ANY character or book.
Characters are what we focus on first in our classroom. We read picture books along with the novel(s) we are reading. We do this activity with our novel(s) as well. You can hang up the information posters or turn them into an anchor chart. Connecting the topic to the character in a picture book helps my kids remember the concepts.
To practice the skill, decorate the body outline as ANY book (picture book or novel) character and write the character traits around it. Add the name of the character in the box on top.
On the puzzle pieces, write about the different pieces of any character. You can use the puzzle with the blank middle piece to write about a specific character, place the name of the character in the center.
This pack contains FIVE different activities to use when teaching kids all about characters in book. There are sheets are designed to be used with Chrysanthemum and other sheets that can be used with ANY book or character (in novels or picture books).
