When I was teaching with the CPM curriculum a few years back, a very memorably activity was the "chubby bunny" situation, in which a young woman had a rabbit that was gaining weight, and another animal that was losing weight.
I lost track of the original activity, and I ended up creating this assignment instead.
I use this activity within cooperative groups, and I circulate to make sure they are getting the purpose of the questions.
The file includes spiral review problems.
This worksheet is intended to be written on directly.
Please download the pdf preview file first, so you can see exactly what's included; the product file is a word document, which you may personalize for your students.
For instance, you may want to change my name, “Mr. Jonnard,” to that of a teacher more familiar to your students.
Keywords: systems of linear equations, intersecting lines, consistent systems, point of intersection, Jonnard
(NOTE: I learned that there is a relay race type of game also called "chubby bunny," which involves students stuffing as many marshmallows as possible into their mouths. I have since learned that many students have choked, and it is not a recommended activity.)
