Sounding out words, letter-by-letter, is a common strategy beginning readers rely on. Often it is their ONLY strategy when they come to an unknown word. In order to help students become more automatic in their reading, the Chunky Monkey strategy is one in which students learn how to look for bigger "chunks" within a word.
This packet has five different activities that are designed for students that have just been introduced to this strategy, and need activities to practice when they are away from small group instruction. They are simple, tried and true activities that help students "train their brain" to start looking at words in a different way.
All activities are created in black-and-white for easy printing and copying.
PLEASE NOTE: This packet only contains materials for SHORT VOWEL patterns. I am currently working on two more packets that consist of the CVCe long vowel patterns, and one that has common and uncommon long vowel patterns and will post those as soon as I have them finished.
Hopefully you will find this packet useful for your readers!
Thanks for looking!
