Description

The purpose of phonics lessons is to teach students sound-spelling relationships and apply those relationships to reading words. Phonics knowledge aids in word recognition, and word recognition increases fluency and comprehension. Inadequate decoding is common in struggling readers.

This packet contains an easy-to-use explicit and systematic phonics program complete with 109 word chunks, word lists, lesson plans and labels. For each word chunk there is a chunk card, two word cards, two corresponding picture cards and a word/picture card including an inflectional ending. The lessons should last only 5-10 minutes each day and can be done in whole groups or small groups. Blends, digraphs, inflectional endings and other spelling patterns can all be taught practiced when students are creating words around a word chunk. These lessons work well for primary grade students and for intermediate grade students who are struggling with reading.

Once students have completed the word chunk lessons, they are ready to decode bigger, more difficult words. Included in this packet is a multiple syllable lesson guide along with some word lists. It’s important for students to know how to decode and understand large words to be successful readers.

Thank you so much for considering this product and have a super day!

:) Mary
