This product relates to visiting a church and learning about its features inside and outside.
This resource is useful if your class is visiting a church. So that the students know what to expect, this resource highlights features inside and outside a church on PowerPoint. However, it would be even more interesting for your students if you could bring in some religious objects such as a Bible, rosary, chalice or even photographs.
The 5 lesson plans are flexible with learning objects for each lesson. They begin with starter activities, main lessons with key questions and an end session to recap on what the students have learnt.
The first lesson starts off with getting students to discuss where their special place is - a gentle starter to lead into a special place for some Christians.
Each lesson 1 hr. The visit to the church may take half a day or all day.
- Lesson 1: My Special Place
-Lesson 2: Places of Worship and Special Symbols
-Lesson 3: Main features inside/outside a church
-Lesson 4: My Church Visit and activity sheets - ready-made list for students to tick off what they see and sketch other features of the church
-Lesson 5: Follow- up to Visit - Shared writing and individual writing
During speaking and listening some students may be able to tell the others what happens in their church whether it be Catholic or some other denomination. It is also an opportunity for some comparison with other religions that may use an altar or a chalice.
Worksheets/Activities with Answer Key for each lesson.
