This is a six part unit covering the Battle of Puebla, the history of the Cinco de Mayo holiday, the lives of two of Mexico's most enduring figures: Pancho Villa and Santa Anna, and the achievements of two notable Mexican Americans: Ritchie Valens and Cesar Chavez. A student reading is included for each, along with a variety of activities to supplement the material. Each section has a set of reading comprehension questions, a set of true and false questions, guided reading activities, a vocabulary/writing activity, and a short essay response question. The unit includes enough material to cover six 30-40 minute blocks of class.
