Are you looking for a little Cinco de Mayo word work fun? Then why not try this bingo-style game? My students absolutely love it!
Included you will find a game sheet and a set of flashcards with words often associated with Cinco de Mayo.
The game sheet lists 30 words and a blank bingo-style grid with 25 boxes. The students choose 25 of the words and write them randomly in the grid.
The teacher or the “caller” shuffles the flashcards and calls a word out, giving students ample time to locate and cover the word on their grid with a bingo chip, penny, or counting cube. The first player to get 5 in a row (vertically, horizontally, or diagonally) wins! (I allow the winner to be the “caller” for the next game. They love that!)
If you want to save paper, you may laminate the game sheets and use dry erase markers on them. I put the laminated game sheets and flashcards at a learning center after we play as a whole group. My students enjoy playing in small groups with their classmates…and I enjoy watching them have fun while they are learning their words!
So grab some bingo chips and have fun!
