Just print and go! This FREE set of Cinco de Mayo narrative writing activities supports the Common Core State Standards requiring us to teach narrative writing that includes descriptive details (W.3). Here's how they help to scaffold the writing process:
Step 1: Class discussion of colored vocabulary pages (I've included two types that can be cut into cards if you prefer.) Give students the blackline vocabulary pages to color as they discuss the meaning of each word with a partner.
Step 2: Spicy Word and Spicy Sentence activities: In third grade I have students complete these with a partner, and then share with the class.
Step 3: Use your vocabulary and spicy words and sentences to help you write a Cinco de Mayo story.
Extras: I have included bookmarks in color and blackline, and a coloring page. My students love these =)
Please let me know if you enjoyed using these activities. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.
Happy Cinco de Mayo,
