A festive Cinco de Mayo audio sight word search! Students scan the QR code, then listen for my reading of dolch 1st grade sight words. Students highlight the sight word each time I say it to reinforce sight word reading fluency.
In my class, we often do sight word searches as a whole group where I call out the word, and students find it before I call the next word. All levels of my students are motivated by this and stay engaged in reading for these short periods of time.
Because of the popularity and effectiveness, I have implemented this activity with QR codes for independent practice. The QR code is a recording of my voice providing first, the directions, then reading the words. The first time the word is read, I spell the word to assist. If the recording is going too fast, students are welcome to pause the voice recording. Recordings last about 3 minutes, so this is a quick, but effective activity.
Each page includes 5 sight words, each of which is placed 5-7 times on the page. Within the 6 pages of searches are a total of 17 words (think, how, could, put, when, any, from, over, were, may, by, some, open think, how, let, ask), with each sight word appearing on two pages for repition of exposure to sight words (with let, how, and ask appearing only on one page).
Ideas for use:
-Early Finisher Activity -Word work/Listening Center
-Homework -Morning Work
-Place in page protectors for fewer copies
