This 1-2 day activity requires students in either Spanish or Social Studies classes to learn what they can about the Cinco de mayo holiday and write a newspaper article addressing certain misconceptions and ideas. Traditionally, I have my Spanish students write this article in English and we choose the best to actually submit to a local paper, however, more advanced students could write in Spanish.
The zipped file contains the basic outline of the assignment with some questions to ponder as they research. It has several good links to websites that provide factual information. Finally, there is a rubric for grading their writing.
