Literature circles can be a lot of work, but with everything you need to have a successful literature circle, they can be a very meaningful experience for students that gets them talking and thinking about reading in a whole new way! Cinder by Marissa Mayer is an excellent novel (the most challenging part of this book club is getting students to STOP reading in between book club meetings). It takes the story of Cinderella and puts it in a futuristic world (Cinder is actually a Cyborg who is not just attending a ball but saving the world from a horrible plague). It is an engaging read for middle-grade students and one that they are sure to love and talk about.
