This unit is one that I use during the beginning of quarter four to address the literacy standards. It takes students on an international journey to compare and contrast various versions of Cinderella from a French version (Cinderella) to a Chinese version (Yeh-Shen) to an Algonquin version (Rough Face Girl). I throw in a fractured fairy tale (Cindy Ellen) as a fun, final story to make text to text connections with all the traditional fairy tales we've read previously in the unit. My first graders have LOVED this unit through the years.
While this unit is slightly different than my other units as it solely focuses in on the read aloud, the pacing of the unit is the same with 2-3 days devoted to each story for differing standards-based purposes of reading. Each day has an explicit lesson plan to guide your teaching of the focus standards and provides both worksheet and interactive journal foldables for student-use based on each addressed standard.
This is the first nine days of my entire fairy tale unit. Look for a completed bundle that will also include Little Red Riding Hood & the Three Little Pigs.
