I developed this "brainstorm" sheet to use with my second graders for a fun little unit on cinquain poetry. I have seen several definitions for this kind of poetry; this think sheet supports the poetry defined as such:
Line 1: Broad/"Category" Noun
Line 2: 2 adjectives about "specific" noun
Line 3: 3 "ing" verbs about "specific" noun
Line 4: 4 word phrase about "specific" noun
Line 5: "specific" noun
The second document is a template for students to write their poem in this format!
Students can write ideas/possibilities on the lines on the sheet, and choose the best one to use and write in the gray box. This worked well for students working independently or with groups or partners. Once the poems are written in the five line format, you can cover the fifth line with a Post-It and let others guess the subject of the poem!
