In this inquiry lesson, students will measure, graph a scatterplot, make connections, and discover the formula for circumference.
The two-page handout guides student through the activity. It begins with vocabulary, then measuring circles' diameters and circumferences with string, making a graph, observations, making predictions, improving solutions, and finally practice with the circumference formula.
The lesson is meant to help students see the relationship between circumference, diameter, and radius, so they will remember the formula. It is most appropriate for middle school, but I created to help my struggling high school geometry students.
The download comes with a basic lesson guide and answer key.
