Student's write weekly in their circle notebook (black composition book) to family members. This gives them an opportunity to enhance their letter writing skills, reflect on their learning, and effectively communicate with others. Each week we brainstorm a list of topics we learned about and tease out the details or teacher can select a list. Students chose a topic to expand on in their journals. As they become more independent they are able to expand their letters and details. Families loved hearing about their child's week and were impressed with the growth over the year. It has become a nice keepsake for families.
For student's who did not have consistent participation from home they wrote to classmates, older peers or staff member in our school.
