This 4th grade hands-on science unit comes complete with five 5 E Inquiry based lessons, flaps and folds for interactive notebooks, response pages, and an informational text article.
This unit is aligned with NGSS for 3rd and 4th grade
3-PS2-3. Ask questions to determine cause and effect relationships of electric or magnetic interactions between two objects not in contact with each other.
4-PS3-2. Make observations to provide evidence that energy can be transferred from place to place by sound, light, heat, and
4-PS3-4. Apply scientific ideas to design, test, and refine a device that converts energy from one form to another
3-5-ETS1-3. Plan and carry out fair tests in which variables are controlled and failure points are considered to identify
aspects of a model or prototype that can be improved.
NGSS Science and Engineering Practices Students Will Use Include:
Developing and Using Models
Planning and Carrying Out Investigations
Engaging in argument from evidence
Obtaining, evaluating, and communicating information
NGSS Crosscutting Concepts addressed include:
Cause and Effect
Scale, Proportion,and Quantify
System and System Models
Structure and Function
Stability and Change
Through STEM challenges your students will learn about closed circuits and open circuits, how to make an electrical switch, how circuit electricity works, how to make a series circuit and a parallel circuit and they will also learn that some objects insulate form electricity and some conduct electricity.
The materials you will need to provide are inexpensive such as small light bulb, electrical wire, D cell battery paper clips and brads.
This unit comes with many interesting flaps an folds for interactive notebooks designed especially for this unit.
You will love these other science units.
