In this web-based interactive activity (provided by 3M Science of Everyday Life), students explore and experiment with series and parallel circuits. The webquest guide and activity guide students through a conceptual understanding of electrical energy transfer, relating the key concepts to everyday life. They learn about circuits, batteries, electrons, switches and more. They then move on to building and experimenting with series and parallel circuits, investigating the things make a circuit work or not, or stronger or weaker. At the end of the webquest, there are some additional links that a teacher could use to create further explorations.
This activity is aligned to 7th-grade essential science standards (energy unit). Web interactives are a great way for students to self-direct and investigate, while building higher-order thinking skills. The activity is engaging and interesting!
