This hands on activity will help your students understand circular motion. Prior to starting this activity, students should be familiar with Newton's Laws and the basics of circular motion. Here, students will complete three activities and explain how each demonstrates the principles of circular motion. You can have students complete these activities in groups, or individually depending on your resources. As a teacher you will need to set up the activity stations beforehand, which include the following items:
1 whole paper plate
1 paper plate cut in half
3 small balls (like marbles)
1 Wiffle ball attached to a string. Alternatively, I have tied a paper cup onto a string and this worked fine also!
After students complete each activity, they answer lab questions which can be reviewed as a whole class after the activity or graded independently.
