Product Description

Here are TWO speaking games to use with students, to get them speaking the target language. This is picture based, so it is great to use with ANY world language. The goal of these activities is to get students speaking, communicating, and using the words that they know. Circumlocution is talking around the word, and is a strategy for students learning languages to help them cope when they can't remember the exact words.

This packet includes 2 speaking games and their instructions. The clip art is hand drawn by our team to fit with ANY age student.

GAME #1:

This speaking activity would be great for lower levels (I have used in Spanish 2-3 and ESL). Students choose a number card and a letter card, and without showing it to their partners, need to explain the everyday object using circumlocution. They can describe it, tell what it is used for, define it, give examples of how or when to use it, etc. The other students look on the grid, and try to guess which object is being described. Students do not need to know the name of the object! They can simply use the numbers and letters on the grid to guess.

GAME #2:

This speaking activity would be great for slightly more proficient students (I have used for Spanish 3-4-AP and more advanced ESL). After cutting out the cards of the everyday objects, they are placed face down. To take a turn, students pick up a card and lay it down on the table. In order to earn a point, they have to explain either

1) why they need this object for vacation

2) on what type of trip it would be useful or

3) what they would use it for on their vacation.

Each game comes with speaking prompts to be written on the board in the target language.
