This resource is a 14-page activity book about the development and growth of cities. It contains information about how cities need to change in order to be successful in the future as well as opportunities to investigate cities that currently feature highly on lists of the safest and most liveable cities in the world. It contains activities that require students to examine different types of information and data, and interpret and apply what they learn to different activities.
This resources is connected to the 'Changing Nations' unit in Year 8 Geography. Some of the cities that they examine include Los Angeles, London, Paris and Singapore. There is a focus on design principles for cities of the future which students can use to evaluate our current cities. These principles can also be used to inform activities such as designing their own city for the future.
In April 2019, National Geographic published an issue about Cities. The information and articles from this issues is available online. https://www.nationalgeographic.com/magazine/2019/04/
