Before beginning your middle school research project, you have to teach kids how to cite - especially internet sources! Many middle schoolers have never done a full-blown research project before, so they are often lost when it comes to citing sources. This worksheet is a neat little one-bell classwork activity that gives them a foundation for giving credit and citing web sources.
Students will choose an online article from three choices, locate important information such as the author's name, the article title, the copyright date, and the sponsoring organization. Then, in a few easy steps, they will follow an example to create their own internet citation.
I have found it helpful to do this before assigning our big research project, so my students can take some time and just focus on learning how to cite sources using MLA format before having to pull all their skills together and write a research paper. I hope it helps your middle school researchers be more successful and enjoy more of the research process!
