This activity combines research and design thinking around the problem of the decline of the bee population. It can be used to introduce or conclude an environmental unit or simply as a stand alone project that is perfect for the end of the school year.
The outcome of the project is a proposal, but some students actually built theirs with their families. It provides for a lot of individual creativity. I have had students create everything from a hanging garden that takes up vey little space to a plan for half of a backyard with red whit and blue themed flowers.
At the end of the week we did plant seeds of plants native to our area for students to take home.
