In this two week Project Based Learning project your students show if they know what it took for loyal American citizens to turn into rebellious, brave soldiers. They will be giving exciting, unique presentations and having a class debate to prove the depth of their learning.
To launch this project, I love to use my AMERICAN REVOLUTION ESCAPE ROOM (CLICK HERE TO PREVIEW ). It's a great overview. However, in addition to that, or instead of that, I have the students try to recreate the colonial propaganda that would have been around in cities like Boston during the time leading up to war to hang up around the room. There are several examples slides included. After that there are slides on the basics of 10 pre-Revolutionary War events that made up the Revolution. These are given with cause and effects. After that, groups are assigned two events to transform in to a fun, information packed presentation.
The next phase of the project is to learn about a few basic debate techniques and then apply them to these events. Groups will argue for both the patriots and the loyalists on different events.
* Student packet handouts
* Rubrics for the presentation and debate
* Lesson plans with youtube links
* Presentation slides with the driving question, activities, and 10 events that led to the revolution
