Counseling Wisdom offers #4 in a series of character education mini booklets, this one focusing on citizenship and honoring veterans. We work together to understand that a good citizen is concerned about the well being and safety of all members of their community. Presented during the month of November this packet includes a 4 page mini-booklet which can be printed in black line or color. Booklet includes a working definition of a good citizen and citizenship quotes from famous Americans including Eleanor Roosevelt and Colin Powell. The writing prompt "Thank-you for your service" is included for 3rd-5th grade students to respond to. Students are also guided to write short statements about how they can be a good citizen in their community. Included are patriotic writing papers so students may write a letter to a veteran or a current member of the armed forces. Younger students can write a few simple sentences and draw a picture. In our school we actively participate in the shoe boxes for solider project and we include our letters in the boxes for soldiers. Our school also hosts a Veteran's Day assembly and letters are displayed to honor our community veterans. These activities allow students to exercise their citizenship by showing concern for the safety and well being of others. Two mini posters are included one on citizenship and one honoring veterans can be displayed in the classroom.
