Literature circles can be a lot of work, but with everything you need to have a successful literature circle, they can be a very meaningful experience for students that gets them talking and thinking about reading in a whole new way! City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau is a wonderful book, depicting a dystopian future where members live in a city of darkness and are slowly running out of resources from their creators, the "builders." It is an easy, safe read for middle-grade students and one that they are sure to love and talk about.
