This is a pre-reading/anticipation activity for the book City of a Thousand Dolls by Miriam Forster. Copy the document two-sided and have students fold the paper in half dividing the left column from the right. Students read each quote from the novel, and on the back they make a prediction. What do you know about the book, based on this quote? Then they have the more difficult task of explaining HOW the know this.
This is good practice for making inferences and providing commentary to justify their answers. It can be done alone, or as part of a novel study to introduce this novel to your class.
