PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

1920’s Civil Liberties Organizations (U.S. History)
Your students will be engaged in this interactive activity to learn about the civil rights organizations developed at the turn of the century in America: The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA).

First, students will read about the “culture wars” during the 1920’s: National Origins Act, The Ku Klux Klan, Sacco & Vanzetti, The Scopes Trial, and The Red Scare/Palmer Raids. Then the students will be placed in groups of four. Each student will be assigned one of the organizations to research (web site link and QR code are included on the corresponding worksheet). The students will then teach the other group members about their specific organization while they take notes on the worksheet. The teacher will review the power point presentation and the students will create a bumper sticker about one of the organizations they studied.

This purchase includes the following:
 Detailed Lesson Plan
 20-slide power point presentation instructions & review lecture
 2-page Reading: Attack on Civil Liberties
 1-page worksheet: Civil Liberties Organization Chart
 1-page Bumper Sticker Activity

Objective: Students will be able analyze the organizations that developed in response to the attacks on Civil Liberties by creating and bumper sticker.
